THE COURTYARD RESIDENCE
A contemporary Bengaluru home shaped around light, material and an intimate internal courtyard.
The Courtyard Residence was conceived as a calm retreat from the density of the city. The interior architecture is organised around a central landscaped courtyard that brings daylight, greenery and visual connection into the heart of the home.
Warm timber, natural stone and softly textured surfaces create continuity between rooms, while custom joinery and carefully framed views give each space its own character.

The planning strategy began with the courtyard. Rather than treating it as a decorative feature, the courtyard became the organising element of the home — connecting the living, dining and circulation spaces while bringing natural light deep into the plan.
Materials were intentionally restrained. A limited palette of stone, oak, lime plaster and soft textiles allows light, proportion and craftsmanship to carry the character of the interiors.

An open room defined by proportion rather than decoration.
The living space is arranged to maintain uninterrupted views toward the courtyard. Low-profile furniture and integrated joinery preserve the openness of the room while timber ceilings and textured stone introduce warmth and depth.

A quiet centre to the home.
The landscaped courtyard acts as both a visual anchor and a source of natural light. Sliding openings blur the edge between interior and exterior, allowing greenery, shadow and changing daylight to become part of the experience of the home.

Designed for everyday rituals and long gatherings.
The dining and kitchen spaces share a continuous material language with the rest of the house. Custom oak cabinetry, stone worktops and concealed storage reduce visual noise, while warm lighting creates a softer atmosphere in the evening.

Quieter rooms with softer material expression.
Bedrooms move away from the more architectural character of the shared spaces toward a softer palette of timber, linen and muted plaster. Built-in storage and carefully positioned lighting maintain the clarity of the architecture while supporting everyday comfort.

“The result is a home that feels open without being exposed, refined without feeling formal, and calm without becoming minimal for its own sake.”
The Courtyard Residence reflects Terra Serene's belief that enduring interiors emerge from proportion, material honesty and careful attention to how people move through and inhabit space.
